Listen, travel altars are great, but I probably won’t use it and it’s one more thing that would take up space in my carry-on. I am a folk cottage witch, so my practice is often where my feet are and using what I have on hand at the moment. My itineraries are usually so busy, I’m certainly not lighting candles in hotel rooms.
I don’t carry a lot, if any, tools while traveling, but here are some practices I do use:
Essential oil blends in roller bottles for safe travels.
Small spray bottles of Florida water for cleansing and protection.
Mini meditations for grounding or shielding.
Calming breathwork.
Crystals aligned with my intention.
Putting my bare feet on the ground.
Reiki.
Affirmations.
A pocket deck or tarot app.
Pendulum necklace.
Visualizations of my trip.
Using the vehicle to quantum leap during my journey. When I arrive at my destination I am in the future.
Drink magick (mint tea is great for travel).
Crafting a small intentional spell bottle.
Hair clips and scarfs – evil eye jaw clips or enchanted bandanas.
Journaling.
Yoga.
Nature walks.
Trying new dishes (food magick).
Skincare glamour magick.
Clothing color magick.
Lavender-filled travel pillows for peaceful dreams.
Showing reverence and respect for local spirits and histories. Leave no trace.
Bringing witchy books – fiction or non-fiction.
Wearing evil eye bracelets, and crystal jewelry.
Braiding a bracelet using knot and color magick.
Sigils can be placed anywhere – pins, patches, stitched into clothing, luggage tags, keychains, pieces of paper, drawn in the dirt or sand, taped to the bottom of car mats or hung in the rearview mirror.
My intentions usually involve grounding, cleansing, protection and calming.
After I return from a trip, I make sure to cleanse myself physically and energetically – a full body shower and then smoke and crystal cleansing.
