We are made of about sixty to seventy percent water, and just like the ocean we are pulled by the lunar cycles. We are fast approaching the new moon in Cancer which also connects us to the moon and to water, which is vital, life-sustaining and complex in nature. Water lives within us, we need to bathe in it, and drink it for survival, and it also affects our environment from serene lakes and streams to torrential downpours and tsunamis.
Magickally, water rules our emotions, intuition, beauty, allows us to flow, inspires insight and creativity.
I feel mostly into the rest of my chart, but as a Cancer sun, I often forget how much water aids in my own life. Baths restore me, showers calm my racing mind, cleaning and cleansing are peaceful, it can soothe and quiet difficult feelings, and there are so many other ways that I interact with it – drinking it like I’m on a desert island, for instance.
Essential oil blends are a quick and easy way to infuse plant magick into our glamour spells and skincare routines (and they smell incredible). Scent is a powerful tool that can not only influence you, but those around you.
To harness and embody the energies of water and Cancer, I have crafted three essential oil blends – Mermaid Cove, Siren Song, and Selkie’s Pelt – for this new moon cycle.
WITCH TIP: you can use essential oils in a variety of ways. Do not ingest. You can diffuse blends or use them in spellwork. If you would like to make them skin-safe in a roller ball applicator dilute you blends in a carrier oil (for summer vibes I recommend coconut or jojoba oil).
MERMAID COVE
Mermaids are ethereal sea creatures that have been captivating us for centuries. Harness your playful, dreamy and intuitive side through this light, citrusy Mermaid-inspired essential oil blend. SELKIE’S PELT
This deep, earthy, petrichor essential oil blend is inspired by the Selkie, from the folklore of rocky Northern Scotland shores. These shapeshifting seal-folk can remove their pelts beneath the moonlight to become human which are often stolen from them. In their human form, they wander upon land but will always yearn for the sea. They are a symbol of love, loss, shadow work, and the transformation that occurs as a result of this work.
